Politics of Good Guys

I'm a doctor with a pragmatic approach about everything in life. I understood there were no shortcuts in life, who didn't believe in songs like 'One Man Can Change the World', it all seemed too unrealistic and phony- but then October 30, 2011 happened in Pakistan.

Imran Khan, our very own local good guy dawned upon us. I vividly remember the Twitter frenzy. The youth of Pakistan for the first time started taking politics seriously. Political activation was at its highest. We saw hope. We were told together we can change and all the regular good stuff and we fell for it.

It's been an year, the world or at least the social media have found its messiah.

Even the fervent supporters sometime genuinely showed concerns if his utopian plans could be carried out but were shunned by others who wanted to live in their happy bubble, a little more. Every state he lost, more hopes were raised. There were obvious comparisons with how Obama came back strong and defeated Clinton. What we didn't  realize was; Clinton learned from her mistakes and ran the race as the inevitable candidate  with all the homework done.
On the other hand, our Good Guy Bernie Sanders gauged his standings by the number of likes on Facebook or retweets on Twitter he received. Classic Imran Khan.

What these good guys of Pakistan and America should have done - Be realistic before raising hopes of millions of people when deep down they themselves knew , they couldn't win. They shouldn't turn a blind eye towards polls. Respect the media and help them spread your narrative positively. Sorry to conclude this but both heavily relied on the fact which has the least weightage in democratic process; people. Gone are the days when democracy implied 'by the people, for the people'
In today's world the triumph cards are super rich media, not a popular social media campaign.

I congratulate Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump for receiving nominations and I expect they'll be utilitarian leaders of the free world just like their efficient presidential campaign.
