T-Mobile will offer buyers a "free" 7-inch tablet, the Alcatel OneTouch Pop 7,
if they sign up for any qualified data plan from Thursday, Feb. 12 to
Monday, Feb. 16. Customers will still have to pay the sales tax for the
tablet, which should be between $5 to $15, depending on your local tax
rate. However, there are no up front costs and no monthly fees for the
tablet itself as part of this offer, but the monthly data plan is
required.
T-Mobile normally prices the Alcatel OneTouch Pop 7 at $168 without a
contract, or $7 a month. With this offer, customers will see that $7
cost as credited on their bill. The data plan must have at least 1GB of
data, which cost $20 a month. Buyers who decide to cancel their monthly
data service from the carrier before the two year contract is up may
still have to pay off the remaining balance of that price with this
offer.
The Alcatel OneTouch Pop 7 has Android 4.2 Jelly Bean
installed and has a 1024x600 display. Inside it has a dual-core 1.3 GHz
processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage and a 2MP rear camera.
In other words, this is not exactly a high-end tablet, but if you plan
to stick with T-Mobile for two years, this is a nice freebie.
